Autonomous Mining Truck Retrofit System

L4 Unmanned Haulage Solution, OEM-Agnostic, Proven Commercial Operation in Australia & High-Altitude Metal Mines

Our L4 autonomous haulage system provides flexible retrofit solutions for existing mining trucks as well as pre-installation for new haulers. As an OEM-neutral autonomous solution, it supports over 70 models of heavy mining trucks from different brands. The system has been deployed on more than 30 mining sites globally with over 3,000 autonomous trucks in operation, including landmark no-safety-driver projects in Western Australia open-pit gold mines and large-scale high-altitude copper mines. It realizes full-cycle unmanned haulage — automatic loading, dumping, obstacle avoidance, fleet scheduling and mixed manned & unmanned fleet coordination — helping mines improve operational safety and cut hauling costs.

Important Note: The retrofit kit is designed for surface open-pit mining trucks only. Underground mines require separate explosion-proof and mining-safety certification. Standard units cannot be deployed directly in gassy or underground hazardous zones.

Core Key Advantages

  • OEM-Agnostic Retrofit Compatibility: The system can retrofit most mainstream brands of rigid mining haulers, independent of truck manufacturers. Clients upgrade their existing fleet without purchasing brand-new mining trucks, greatly lowering capital expenditure.
  • Large-Scale & Globally Validated Commercial Performance: Over 3,000 autonomous trucks deployed across 30+ mines. Successfully completed no-safety-driver operation in Western Australia gold mine, complying with strict Australian mining safety standards. Proven at scale in high-altitude, cold and dusty metal mines.
  • Strong Adaptability to Severe Working Conditions: Stable operation under heavy dust, wide temperature variation, high altitude and steep haul ramps. Well suited to coal, iron ore, copper, gold and limestone quarries.
  • 24/7 Continuous Operation & Economic Benefits: Unmanned fleets run round the clock, reducing driver safety risk and labour cost, extending tyre life and lowering fuel consumption. Operational efficiency reaches or exceeds manually driven fleets.
  • Cloud Fleet Dispatching & Mixed-Fleet Collaboration: Intelligent cloud scheduling coordinates manned trucks, excavators and unmanned haulers. Supports phased mine intelligent upgrade instead of a one-time full reconstruction.

Suitable Regions & Countries

  • Australia (primary target): Live no-safety-driver project completed in a Western Australia open-pit gold mine; local team and safety validation ready; fits high-labour-cost, strictly regulated mining markets.
  • Central Asia & Mongolia: High-altitude, cold open-pit coal / gold mines with heavy dust and long ramp haulage.
  • South America (Chile, Peru, Brazil): Large iron & copper open-pit mines with sizable existing fleets ready for retrofit.
  • Middle East & Africa: Large open-pit mines facing labour shortage and high labour cost.
  • Southeast Asia: Limestone quarries, bauxite and gold mines planning phased unmanned upgrade.

Working Application Scenarios

  • Open-pit gold, copper, iron ore, coal, limestone & aggregate quarry haulage
  • Large-scale open-pit mines with heavy daily hauling volume
  • Mines facing labour shortage or high labour cost
  • Mines requiring phased intelligent transformation with mixed manned & unmanned fleets
  • High-altitude, severe-cold, heavy-dust and long-ramp haulage mining sites
  • 24/7 continuous production operation requiring round-the-clock haulage

Note: Final scope, schedule and configuration depend on site survey, vehicle condition and mine production plan.

Project Considerations

  • Start with a pilot, not a full fleet: 5 trucks is the recommended minimum commercial pilot. Prove operational stability before scaling to the full fleet.
  • Vehicle condition check first: Line-by-wire, braking, steering and sensor interfaces must be evaluated per vehicle before retrofit.
  • Communication & haul-road baseline: No full reconstruction is required, but site survey will identify required communication and haul-road optimization.
  • Phased upgrade path: Safety monitoring → remote control → L4 no-driver operation, so the mine can stage investment over time.
  • Operator & dispatcher training: Includes on-site training for mine control room staff and maintenance crews.

FAQ

What truck brands and models can this autonomous system retrofit?

Our autonomous kit supports over 70 types of mining trucks from multiple OEMs, including Komatsu, Caterpillar, Volvo, Liebherr, Hitachi and other mainstream heavy haulers. Our engineering team will conduct site survey and vehicle evaluation before retrofit work.

Has the system been verified in overseas mining projects?

Yes. We have successfully deployed no-safety-driver autonomous haulage in a Western Australia open-pit gold mine, passing strict local mining safety review. We also have large-scale commercial operation cases in high-altitude metal mines.

Can the unmanned trucks work together with manually operated mining vehicles?

Yes. The cloud dispatching platform supports mixed manned-unmanned fleet operation. Unmanned haulers safely interact with excavators, loaders and manned trucks, enabling phased intelligent upgrade.

What harsh environments can this autonomous haulage system withstand?

The system is designed for heavy dust, extreme cold weather down to -40°C, high altitude and steep haul roads. It works reliably in metal mines and coal mines with complicated terrain.

What economic benefits can autonomous haulage bring to my mine?

Unmanned trucks operate continuously 24 hours, reducing driver safety risk, cutting labour expense, lowering fuel consumption and extending tyre life. Fleet efficiency can reach or surpass manual operation level.

Do we need to rebuild mine haul roads or communication infrastructure before deployment?

Full reconstruction is not required. Our team carries out site assessment and gives customized suggestions for communication and haul-road optimization based on your existing mine conditions.

What is the MOQ (minimum fleet size) for autonomous haulage deployment?

The minimum commercial fleet MOQ is 5 autonomous mining trucks. A 5-unit pilot fleet is designed for mine-site verification, mixed-fleet testing and phased rollout. Single-vehicle technical evaluation is available for proof-of-concept, but not recommended for formal production. After successful pilot testing, the fleet scales up step by step according to mine production demand.

Are there restrictions on mining truck brands? Can we retrofit Volvo haulers?

No brand restrictions. Our system is fully OEM-agnostic. Volvo, Caterpillar, Komatsu and other international heavy-duty mining trucks are fully supported for retrofit. Our engineering team evaluates each vehicle’s line-by-wire, braking and sensing interfaces before implementation.

What brands and types of mining trucks are compatible with the retrofit system?

Compatible with over 70 models covering global mainstream OEMs — Volvo, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr, Hitachi — as well as domestic brands including Tonly, LGMG, Sany and XCMG. It supports rigid haulers of different power types: diesel, pure electric and hybrid. Vehicle condition assessment is carried out before retrofit.
