Mining Filter Press | Chamber & Membrane Filter Press for Mineral Concentrate & Tailings Dewatering
1. Product Overview
The Mining Filter Press is a heavy-duty solid-liquid separation machine designed for mineral processing applications. It receives thickened slurry from upstream thickeners (concentrate slurry or tailings slurry) and uses high-pressure filtration to produce a compact, low-moisture filter cake. The filtrate water is recovered and recycled back to the processing plant, while the dewatered cake is either loaded for concentrate sales (gold, copper, lithium) or pumped to a tailings dry-stacking facility.
Our filter presses are built with heavy-duty cast iron or reinforced polypropylene plates, hydraulic automatic plate shifting, and full PLC automatic control. They are widely deployed in gold CIL plants, copper flotation plants, lithium beneficiation lines, iron ore concentrators and bauxite washing operations across Africa, Latin America, Central Asia and Southeast Asia.
2. Working Principle
Slurry is pumped into the filter chambers between filter plates. Under feeding pressure (typically 0.6 – 1.0 MPa) or high-pressure membrane squeezing (up to 1.6 MPa), water passes through the filter cloth and drains away. The solids are retained inside the chambers, forming a rigid filter cake. After filtration completes, the hydraulic system automatically opens the plates one by one, and the cake drops by gravity onto the discharge conveyor below.
3. Key Advantages
- Low Cake Moisture — Produces filter cake at 10% – 16% moisture, ideal for concentrate transportation and dry tailings stacking.
- Heavy-Duty Construction — Reinforced PP plates and cast iron frame withstand continuous mining operation, abrasive slurry and high working pressure.
- Automatic Operation — PLC control with automatic plate shifting, cake discharge, cloth washing and pressure monitoring; minimal operator intervention required.
- Flexible Plate Options — Chamber plate for general dewatering; Membrane (diaphragm) plate for ultra-low moisture requirement; Custom plate material for acid / alkaline slurry.
- Wide Application Range — Suitable for gold concentrate, copper concentrate, lithium concentrate, iron concentrate, tailings slurry, bauxite mud and chemical slurry.
- Water Recovery — Filtrate water is recovered and recycled, reducing fresh water consumption in mining operations.

7. FAQ for Mining Filter Press
Q1: What is a mining filter press used for?
A1: A mining filter press is used to dewater mineral slurry — both concentrate (gold, copper, lithium, iron) and tailings — into a compact, low-moisture cake. It separates water from solids so that the dry cake can be transported or dry-stacked, and the water can be recycled.
Q2: What is the typical filter cake moisture?
A2: Standard chamber filter press produces cake at 12% – 16% moisture. Membrane (diaphragm) filter press can squeeze the cake further down to 8% – 12%. Actual moisture depends on mineral type, particle size and flocculant dosage.
Q3: Chamber plate vs membrane plate — what is the difference?
A3: Chamber plates filter under feeding pressure only (0.6 – 1.0 MPa). Membrane plates add a second squeeze stage (up to 1.6 MPa) by inflating rubber diaphragms inside the plate, producing drier cake in a shorter cycle. Membrane plates are recommended for fine or sticky minerals such as lithium and gold concentrate.
Q4: How to select the right filter press model?
A4: We need three parameters: (1) slurry flow rate in m³/h, (2) solids content %, and (3) required cake moisture. Our engineers will calculate the required filter area and recommend the correct model from the XMJ series above.
Q5: Can the filter press handle acidic or alkaline slurry?
A5: Yes. For acidic slurries (pH < 6) we supply PP (polypropylene) plates, acid-resistant filter cloth and rubber-lined piping. For alkaline slurries (pH 8 – 12) standard PP plates are sufficient. Tell us your slurry pH and we will select the right materials.
Q6: How often should filter cloth be replaced?
A6: Typical service life is 6 – 12 months for abrasive mineral slurries, and 12 – 24 months for less abrasive materials. We keep spare filter cloth in stock for all standard plate sizes.
Q7: Do you provide installation and after-sales service?
A7: Yes. We provide factory FAT inspection, containerized delivery, on-site installation guidance, operator training and long-term spare parts support for mining filter press projects worldwide.
